A
Multiuser Flow Cytometry Facility is located in the Department of Microbiology
at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
This multiuser
facility is equipped with two flow cytometers. These instruments employ
laminar flow of cells in suspension, high-speed electronics,
narrowly
focused laser beams for cellular interrogation, and multiple, sensitive
photomultiplier tubes for fluorescence and light-scatter analysis,
as
well as the capability of physically sorting individual cells at high
rates.
